I was a huge fan of electric chainsaws when power is available, but I must admit now that I’m a very huge fan of battery cordless chainsaws. I find them convenient, easy to use and lightweight.

As this saw is able to cut large trees, you’ll find out that it’s better suited for branches and trimming. You have to know that this is a tiny saw, so if you want decent power, go for the 40v model. You’ll be glad you did. I know there is some pretty awesome 80V chainsaws out there and I’m looking forward to try one soon.

There are lots of people telling me they had problems with their LCS1020 because the oil system would not lubricate the bar chain. The one I tried was working just like it was supposed to.

What’s cool about the oil reservoir is that it will last long enough so you can use all the power in the battery. So when you start cutting, make sure you have added enough bar oil.

You can use any brand of chainsaw bar oil for this Black & Decker tool.

Battery charging time

It can take up to 4 hours to charge the battery and it will last for about 40 minutes of work. So it’s a good idea to have some more batteries if you are out in the woods. But if you are in your backyard, it’s ok.

Good for the price

There is lots of cons for this chainsaw, but one very good point to it is the price. For the bucks, it delivers very good performance. Just not having to deal with a power cord is nice to me. It’s also very lightweight, so a good alternative if you want to cut branches while standing up in a ladder.

Consider the 40V model

The best recommendation I could make for you if you’re interested in the 20V model is consider the 40V one. If you have to money to buy the 40V model, go for it. You’ll have twice the power and will better suit your needs for sure. Unless you just have a few smaller branches to take down.

The good part

I know that this review is somewhat critical, but there is a good part too. The LCS1020 will cut down branches and trees. You will definitly be able to slice wood, branches and logs. It WILL do the job for sure. Just consider that it’s a small chainsaw and let it work, don’t force it. If you do this, you will have a happy life and will be glad you bought yourself a cordless chainsaw.
